History

Safecon (Safety Consultancy) was founded in December 2000 as a limited partnership and as a sideline. Its registered office is located at Kromstraat 16, Retie. As his main profession, managing Director Davy Van Dooren still worked as a risk management consultant for insurance brokers Vanbreda Risk & Benefits plc.

In the course of his career at Van Breda, Davy had already gained extensive experience as a health & safety officer and as a quality manager at Lastek plc (manufacturer of welding rods and equipment), Hoistpartner plc (manufacturer and supplier of hoisting and lifting equipment) and Sarens plc (crane hire company). In the course of his work for the insurance brokers, Davy himself managed a client portfolio, which included, for example, Telenet, Air Liquide, Emmaüs hospital group, Creyf’s Interim, Concentra, Imec, Securis and Umicore. In a nutshell, medium-sized and large companies from various industrial and service sectors, where he acquired an immense expertise in the disciplines of health & safety, quality and project management.

It soon became clear that the high quality and customer-focused approach set against a heavily project-based and safety technical background became the formula for success, which enabled Safecon Ltd to quickly grow its customer base – even as a business sideline.

In April 2004, Davy Van Dooren therefore decided to allow Safecon Comm.V. to continue to grow as his main business, and in July 2004 he recruited his first member of staff. Thus, he employed a freelance Safety Co-ordinator, who not only worked for Safecon Comm.V. virtually full-time, but is still part of the Safecon Team today. In December 2006, the company also took on a management assistant.

In view of its consistent growth (since the company was set up in 2000, its turnover has increased every year to approximately 650,000 euros), the limited partnership Safecon Comm.V. was changed to a private limited company by the name of Siveco Ltd in January 2007 – the latter is an asset management company, the aim of which was to have its own office in the long term. Another new Safecon Ltd company was also launched. Both companies are managed by Davy Van Dooren as Managing Director.

In the meantime, larger national and international companies also joined the customer portfolio of Safecon Ltd, such as Telenet plc, Gemeentelijk Havenbedrijf Antwerpen, Bank J.Van Breda & C° plc, Vanbreda International plc, DAF Trucks Nederland and others. The company’s previous premises were no longer suitable to manage this growth.

Consequently, Siveco Ltd (Safecon Investment Company) purchased offices in the St. Paulusstraat 23/0001 in Retie in June 2007. This office space of more than 300m² was completely redesigned and refurbished by Safecon Ltd. The company has thus put the surveyors’ agency for project management & construction team management very much into the spotlight. At the inauguration festivities in April 2008, it was clear that Safecon Ltd has made wellbeing a priority for its own staff, by designing a modern, user-friendly and multifunctional office.

As far as resources were concerned, urgent action was also needed to continue to ensure smooth and high quality services to guarantee consistent growth of the customer portfolio. In January 2008, the company not only recruited a construction engineer, but also a former head of health & safety of an international automotive company. In March 2008, a new management assistant also joined the team. To conclude this growth in personnel, the company further strengthened its team on 5 January 2009 with a health & safety officer and a senior facility and project manager from an international multimedia company.

To finalise this wave of investment at Siveco Ltd as well as Safecon Ltd, June 2008 saw the start of a successful collaboration with the marketing, communications and advertising agency Pirana Concepts, which has resulted in a completely new image. This new image comprises a new logo, a baseline, a new tri-lingual website, a company brochure, and finally, a mailshot to more than 300,000 contacts in Belgium and in the Netherlands.

Briefly, Safecon Ltd is ready for an expansion at both commercial and marketing strategic level, and the aim is to continue to expand the customer portfolio and guarantee high quality services.

In 2009, Safecon Ltd aims to considerably expand its market in the Netherlands, and gain the quality certificate Q-for to draw customers’ attention to the company’s guaranteed internal processes. The OHSAS 18001 certificate is also on its wishlist to reinforce the implementation of an integral safety safety management system.
